White Night at Melanie Roger Gallery
Ruth Thomas-Edmond presents new paintings alongside her
fantastical sculptural 'heaps' created through layer upon layer of
cardboard. Thomas-Edmond's work renews our wonder of the
meandering journey and particular passage that is the exploration
of visual space.
In Alexi Willemsen's paintings the absurdity of being human is
captured in strange tantric physiques carrying out ordinary actions
layered with ceremony and iconoclasm. The painted veil is a
metaphor and the painterly surface becomes a meditative
borderland. She embodies a sense of humour and lightness
across mediums, in form and physicality. Her paintings'
diverse physical responses to light illuminate the ephemeral and
fluid nature of experience, and of painting.
