Richard Parker: Master of Craft
Richard Parker, NZ. Presented by Objectspace
Sorry, this event has been and gone
Often described as 'a potter's potter', Richard Parker,
internationally renowned award-winning maker and teacher, truly
exemplifies the value of craftsmanship. Providing insight into the
practice of this master maker this exhibition and an accompanying
publication pay tribute to Parker, highlighting his substantial
influence on the New Zealand ceramics tradition. The signature
forms Parker uses - the plate, dish and vase - provide the
foundation for a seemingly infinite variety of pattern, texture,
and colour. Luscious glazes and a distinctive rhythm born of
repetition, variation and duplication characterise his art.
On during White Night, 12 March, 6:pm -
midnight
Parker has an enviable international reputation, and has
exhibited widely over many years in New Zealand, Japan, Europe and
the United States. His work is held in private and public
collections throughout the world. Richard Parker:
Master of Craft will feature approximately 100 selected
individual works that represent his distinctive ceramic
practice. Richard Parker: Master of Craft is curated
for Objectspace by Auckland curator, writer, academic and one of
New Zealand's most notable collectors of studio ceramics, Richard
Fahey. Fahey's research is focused on the New Zealand studio
pottery movement.
