May B

Maguy Marin, France

Sorry this event has been and gone.

"[Maguy Marin is] one of the giants of modern dance"
- San Francisco Chronicle

"It is difficult to define the dances of Maguy Marin, but it is easy to recognize that they are the work of a genius"
- San Francisco Chronicle

Maguy Marin's May B is one of the great works of dance theatre by one of the one of the great contemporary dance figures. It returns to New Zealand for its 30th anniversary and marks the first visit of this outstanding choreographer to Auckland.

Based on the aburdist characters of Samuel Beckett, May B depicts powerful moments of community and alienation.  They search for an elusive stillness but in that search find that they are continually moving.

Groundbreaking and as astonishing now as on its premiere in 1981, May B demonstrates just why Maguy Marin is recognised as one of the brilliant and enduring artists of her generation.

May B is presented as part of FranceDanse 2011, four choreographers supported in their Auckland performances by the Institut Francais.
