Bright Light and Cloud Shadows: Sounds of Asia
New Zealand String Quartet, NZ
Sorry this event has been and gone
The highly-acclaimed New Zealand String Quartet presents
a programme from five major Asian composers of the 20th and 21st
centuries.
These much-lauded classical composers, including Tan Dun, Gao
Ping, Toru Takemitsu, Chinary Ung and Zhou Long from Cambodia,
Japan and China, find musical inspiration in both their individual
heritage and their experiences in the West.
Programme
- Tan Dun Eight Colors (China)
- Toru Takemitsu A Way a Lone (Japan)
- Gao Ping Bright Light and Cloud Shadows
(China)
- Chinary Ung SPIRAL III (Cambodia)
- Zhou Long Song of the Ch'in (China)
Much loved for their imaginative programming and insightful
interpretations of the string quartet repertoire, the New Zealand
String Quartet's performance will captivate and delight. Helene
Pohl and Douglas Beilman play violin, Gillian Ansell plays viola
and Rolf Gjelsten, cello.

REVIEWS
"I believe that imagination, expressivity, and emotion evoke
a sense of Eastern romanticism in my music that parallels some of
the music-making in numerous lands of Asia"
- Chinary Ung (CAMBODIA)
